CUSHIONS - Proud to support UK manufacturing

Our range of seat cushions are hand made and filled by a highly experienced team of skilled soft furnishings craftsmen (and ladies). Each individual cushion template is hand cut from a roll of top quality fabric, securely stitched and hand filled with the required volume of blown polyester fibres before being buttoned or finished. The material is either pre backed with a fire retardant coating or if this is not possible, a fire retardant interliner is stitched around the flameproof filling to ensure that every single cushion we sell conforms to British Standards upholstery standards.

Our cane furniture is made from the slender stem of a rattan palm. Growing very similar to a vine this creeping plant climbs up through the shade of the rainforest using tree limbs to reach the light of the forest canopy above. Rattan grows predominately in the rainforest's of Asia and can reach up to lengths of 200 meters. It favours rainforest where the trees are younger and smaller hence a lot more light penetrates to the forest floor. Our furniture is predominately constructed with a mixture of quality rattan poles and woven cane, although rattan is one of the lightest woods its natural fibres make it one of the strongest in the world. Harvesting for the processing of rattan is very difficult due to the inaccessibility of the rainforest, it is typically harvested by a team of local villagers when it is a few years old who climb up the trees skillfully cut and peel the rattan with machetes. Once cut into 5 meter lengths it is bundled and taken back to the processing plant where it has to be prepared before use. The rattan is washed in the local river and then cured and dried ready for use. To make a rattan frame and the curly cane detail, a piece of rattan free from defects is selected and then steamed until pliable, the rattan is then bent to the desired shape and diameter required and then left to cool.
